Tuesday: This is the card that makes me think of Gollum in the Lord of the Rings by J R R Tolkien. The character has a Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gollum
He was so driven by perceived need to have ‘the ring’ that he even murdered a relative! The Four of Pentacles shows a dragon wrapped up in his own blinded rapture of having the gold coins; he sees nothing else around and, as the book puts it, lives in a cage of his own making.
How many humans have been encouraged that this is the way to live life through sales and marketing, through perceived lack? To be e.g. ‘better than the Joneses?’ Speaking from experience it was hard to give my possessions away, fearing being without my perceived safety blanket which, having let go, turned out my things were more of a noose around my neck and good to be rid of. This is not only about possessions but anxiety, disappointments, fears and hurts. How much nicer it is to be able to live without these crucifying energies that weigh us down. Are you ready to let go of things that no longer serve you? Or will you hold on tight like Gollum?
